As usual, things started out with an hour or so of conversation and chit chat on topic ranging from TV to US involvement in the Middle-east, but as that died down we got to the real order of business: Star Citizen. First up was a match of Vanduul Swarm co-op play which drew in a good crowd. After that we did several races on every track, where Einnyen and Eris battled it out for first place. Eris won twice, but Einnyen won three times, so he took home the Murray Cup for the night.

Last night’s event a a rousing success!

We had lots of people coming and going in chat and were pretty consistently filling a 8 player Free Flight Instance with members. We were using the public spectrum instances so that we could sign back in if we needed to leave (private instances currently do not allow reentry once you leave) to change ships or if we got the re-spawn instance hang bug.

While poor Captain Glume was the butt end of missile jokes for most of the night, einnyen was just as guilty for his unprovoked killings! There wer even some bolts to the face on more then one occasion!

At one point Nikki trolled Capt Glume by landing (in an Aurora) and getting in to the bed, declaring in voice chat that she needed a bio break. But really it was a trap. Capt Glume tried to steal the ship, but while attempting to get into the pilots seat, Nikki got up again and shot Glume in the back of the head. +42, would troll again!

* Portions of this post shamelessly stolen from Capt Glume’s own description because Eris kind of fell asleep at one point and missed some of the action.

The night started out with a game of musical ships in Free Flight mode with people swapping ships and dogfighting each other. One thing I learned was that it was possible to join a match in progress, as several people were able to rejoin the match after leaving it (due to crashes or other problems).

Once the Queen arrived, we switched over to Co-op Vanduul swarm and the group managed to get all the way up to the last wave, but alas, Capt. Glume was the only one left standing when wave 18 began, and despite a valiant effort, the Vanduul eilte wave was too much and the dear Captain was defeated. It was a glorious death, though.

As we talked, some of our best pilots found themselves denigrating their own skills, so I, not being in a match, took the liberty of looking them up on the leaderboards at the RSI site. Queen “Batgirl” tried to say she wasn’t even an average pilot. Well she’s not average, indeed. She’s in the top 25% of all pilots, as it happens. Brava! einnyen is currently ranked number 396, and jmack is ranked 129 (out of about 7000 people listed), so they are among the most elite pilots in the whole game. But the top ranked Enabler is one of our newest members, Choggernaut, who is number 55 on the leaderboard! Incredible!

A bunch of us went into free flight mode and explored the asteroid hangar. You can’t really land in it, and if you eject then it can be really hard to move around and get back to the hangar. Nonetheless Capt Glume did manage to get out and then into a Cutlass where the dear Captain proceeded to rain death and destruction on everyone else from the turret. General mayhem ensued with guns blasting everyone in order to free up parking spaces. We also spent time just having some general fun stealing each others ships from the landing pads and engaging in a little free flight combat. A good time was had by all.

By the way – multiple missiles fired at point blank range into a Cutlass in the asteroid hangar makes for some pretty fireworks.

Tonight we tried out the RaidCall software using the Operation Pitchfork server. (You are part of OP aren’t you? If not come join the mayhem!)

Kulggen, Captain Glume, Batgirl and Einnyen managed to get in a private match together, while the rest of us just hung out and chatted. Apparently private matches are working, while public matches are giving people trouble.

I personally found that the control customizations are no longer working at all – I have a Saitek X52 and I found that I cannot rebind any of the buttons on it any more.

Marcus celebrated his 2000th post on the RSI forums by showing off a design for an Operation Pitchfork banner his is designing. Check it out here: https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/comment/4817921/#Comment_4817921

Lots of people were in attendance tonight.
Some people got a game in early on, but then we started having multi-player match setup problems and had to log out of the game multiple times. Eventually people started being able to get in game again and many Vanduul met their deaths at the hands of the Enablers.

On an interesting note, another org has reached out to us to suggest an org vs org get together. What do you think? Would you be interested and if so when is the best time for you?

Attending were:

  • Capt GLume
  • DrJeffery
  • Einnyen
  • Eris

Despite the multiplayer problems we were able to get a couple of parallel group sessions going at the same time and lots of us were able to enjoy some, good times hunting the Vanduul. I myself used the REC system to try out the Omnisky VI guns on my super hornet and I found them to be everything that people have been saying. They are excellent guns. Captain Glume did crash out of one session, but was able to get into another game and seemed to have a great time. Batgirl proved her combat mettle by soloing waves 13 and 14 during one session when everyone else had reached their death limit, a feat she repeated in her next session when she soloed several waves and eventually brought back her companions who had been reduced to watching her fly.

One thing to note is that we were playing in public matches where we invited org members to join us. Why not private matches? Because you don’t earn REC in private matches. Be sure to play in public matches in order to earn credits to spend in the store. We didn’t have any non-org members show up in our matches, anyway, so it worked out well.

Attending at various times throughout the night were:

With the 1.1 patch we were all hoping to get in a game together, but with the multiplayer match making system being so buggy we just hung out and talked for a while, some people playing single player games while they chatted.

Rye and Reaper demonstrated an extreme lack of culture by their adoration of that disgusting condiment mayonaise.

Conversation drifted over other topics, of course,

  • The movie Chappie (spoken of approvingly).
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer (spoken of with veneration).
  • Track IR (highly recommended by Reaper).
  • The Omniski VI laser cannon and the Sledge 2 mass driver were discussed as the best gun combination at the moment, the Sledge 2 in particular apparently can take out ships in the early waves of Vanduul Swarm with just 2 hits, penetrating the shields and ripping apart the enemy quite easily.
  • There was some discussion of Mustangs with the Beta and Omega being considered useless in any combat situation, and the Omega even dissed as an interior racer to the Gamma due to sliding too much.
  • Nikki and Kulggen were both playing Vanduul swarm (single player) while talking and they both agreed that the enemy AI is very much improved, with the Vanduul being more aggressive and more competent and hard to shake off when they get on your tail. In fact, Kulggen, who had been making it all the way through wave 18, found himself on his last life with no wingmen on wave 9, and it took him a considerable amount of time to get there though to be fair he did make it to level 12 before finally dying his last death. Time for all you combat pilots to learn new tricks!
  • Kulggen’s considered opinion is that the ally AI for Warlord and Vixen still sucks, though.
  • Nikki and Kulggen threatened to kill each other. Either that or they need to get a room together. It wasn’t really clear. 😀
  • The Last Great Starship rose from the dead with people expressing a desire for the IXM Scimitar to be included in game (which may happen according to a recent 5 for Ben Lesnick video). The Boomslang was also mentioned, but it doesn’t look like it will ever make it into the game.
  • Nikki issued a challenge to everyone: Try Vanduul Swarm with the totally inadequate Mustang Beta and see if you can even get past wave 2. She claims to have gotten to wave 4 herself, though, so see if you can do better!

It’s been a long time since we created this blog for the org, but we’ve never used it until now. Really, we’ve never had any reason to use it since there wasn’t actually anything to say. Now that Arena Commander has matured enough, however, we are starting to actually do things together, so now it’s time to start talking. Welcome to the first Mission Debriefing!

Each Sunday, we are getting together in Arena Commander for a few hours of flying and fun. Our scheduled time is midnight GMT (currently 7pm CDT, though that will change as Europe moves to summer time in a few weeks). Be sure to log in and join us if you haven’t already. We usually chat for a while in Mumble before getting started.

With this as a regular event we are going to have a little fun and post write ups of what we do and this is the first one. I was not there this past Sunday, but Solaias was kind enough to provide a detailed run down of the nights shennanigans. Without further ado, here it is!

Attendees: Nikki, einnyen, Kulggen, Reaper, DrJeffery, Rye, Pathagarus and Solaias. ( If I have missed anyone by accident, please let me know.)

The evening started approx 30 mins late as Nikki became held up.

Early evening it was Nikki, einnyen, DrJeffery, Reaper, Pathagarus and myself. We decided to use the public 1.0.3 build as then everyone could access it. It took about another 20 mins for the first match to start due to us having about 5 mins of chat between ourselves. Finally we got a game of battle royale started (So all five of us could play), and Reaper had about 5 seconds of game time then promptly crashed. Something which we all gathered was annoying due to the swearing we could hear over Mumble.

To be honest I think everyone had connection issues and/or crashes at some point during the night. After Reaper, who didn’t get a game at all I think, I probably had the most issues as I had about an hour where I couldn’t get a game at all because I was being dumped back to the lobby. I think everyone was glad that we played the more “stable” version of the game.

At one point during the evening DrJeffery got bored with the fighting and wandered off to take some mineral samples from the local ‘roids, much to everyones surprise… At least that’s what he claimed he was doing, but we secretly suspect he crashed into a ‘roid instead.

About a third of the way into the nights session Rye arrived to up the Canadian count to two. About half way through the session einnyen left to get some sleep (Big girls blouse.), and Reaper left as he couldn’t get a game. Shortly after that Kulggen arrived.

Nikki and Rye had a “lively discussion” about the virtues of PC’s and Mac’s. One the rest of us politely kept out of… They seemed to be enjoying themselves, would have been rude to interrupt.

After a few more rounds of the Vanduul bitch slapping Kulggen, Rye and Nikki (I couldn’t get in a game at this point) Rye also left stating he had to get up early the next morning.

The session was winding down now, and there would only be a total of 4 more games played. The first was Nikki and Kulggen (I tried, but was dumped back to the lobby again). It was a hard fought battle from start to finish by the sound of the conversation, but they emerged from the other end battle weary and VICTORIOUS! Yes, they had cleared all eighteen waves and sent the Vanduul packing.

After a brief discussion, it was decided that I would host the next game to see if it helped with my issue of being dumped back to the lobby every time. It did, but being the first time I’d hosted I forgot to change the game type and we ended up in a Battle Royal. So we just had some fun. As it happens, it turns out that Nikki and I don’t chicken out in a game of chicken. I think we mutually killed each other three or four times before we tried to take on Kulggen, who did the manly thing of using his weapons and handing us our asses.

Next we went back to Vanduul Swarm co-op and started playing. I’m not entirely sure when it was due to being in a battle, but at around wave 5-ish Kulggen’s game crashed. Which left it to Nikki and I to finish off the last thirteen waves. Seeing as Nikki and I are not the greatest of pilots, this was not going to end well. Taking a vow to do our best, we set about the Vanduul with a vengeance. Wave after wave came at us, and wave after wave died. Eventually I turned around, after killing one Vanduul I’d managed to pin against the edge of the arena before blasting the crap out of him, and saw Nikki in the upper right of my cockpit taking out another Vanduul with yet another one behind her. Hitting boost to stop my drifting and to get over there quickly, I took on the Vanduul before he manage to close up on Nikki. I fired my three remaining guns and made him veer off from his pursuit and pay attention to me. In a moment of stupidity he flew straight at me, not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, I opened up and shot him down.

Turning to find the next target I realise there isn’t one, a brief break before the next wave….. but no, that was wave 18. Nikki and I had just cleared all 18 waves on our own! This being the third time that Nikki has been in a game that clears all 18 waves, she is calm about it. This is my first time, but being British and reserved, plus not wanting to be less manly than a woman, I too played the nonchalant, but slightly surprised, card.

Next we have a VS co-op with all three of us, and yet again we managed to beat all 18 waves. However, all three of us had died twice in this particular game, and it was generally decided that while clearing all 18 waves was now becoming old hat (Yeah, right!), we were getting tired now (It was 6am for me and 7am for Kulggen) and we were going to play it canny and quit while we were ahead.

So apart from a little more chat while we wound down before bed, that is the evening summarized I think.
